VATeir, celebrating 10 years of Irish ATC, is pleased to announce details of this year's St. Patrick's MEGA event. This year is a big year for VATeir who are marking 10 years since the formation of the Irish VACC, as such this years St. Patrick's event will be a special one.

WHEN AND WHERE?
One of VATSIM's biggest events of the year returns on Sunday 14th March from 1600Z to 2200Z. As with every year, the main airports across Ireland will be staffed with the best in Irish ATC throughout the event.

Dublin(EIDW), Cork(EICK), and Shannon(EINN) will be fully staffed, as well as some regional airports, along with enroute ATC from Shannon Control.

This is one of the biggest events on the VATSIM calender, and we want to invite all VATSIM members to make Ireland their destination this March 14th and help us celebrate 10 years of Irish ATC, and make this year's event the biggest yet!

WEBSITE
The official website of the 2010 St. Patrick's MEGA Event can be found here: http://stpats.vateir.com/

On it you will find all the information you need on procedures, as well as links to charts and scenery.

PRIZE DRAW
As this years St. Patrick's event will be marking 10 years of Irish ATC, to celebrate we'll be holding a draw after the event where each person will have the chance to win 1 of 10 prizes:

  • A copy of Éiresim's Dublin(EIDW) scenery
  • A copy of Éiresim's Shannon(EINN) scenery
  • A copy of REX V2
  • A copy of FS2Crew: Heavy Hitters Pro Pack and FS2Crew: PMDG 737 Voice Commander
  • A copy of any Carenado product
  • A copy of any UK2000 Xtreme scenery product
  • A copy of any Flight1 product
  • A copy of any Aerosoft product
  • A copy of any Captain Sim product
  • A copy of any Just Flight product

To qualify for entering this draw you simply need to take part in the St. Patrick's event, and then e-mail events[at]vateir.com with your name, VATSIM ID, and callsign flown in the event.

We'd like to thank these companies for supporting this year's St. Patricks MEGA Event and VATeir as it celebrates 10 years of Irish ATC.

IMPORTANT!!!
We also want to remind pilots flying into Dublin, Cork, Shannon, and Kerry to make sure their AFCAD is up-to-date with the updated ILS frequencies for the following runways:

Dublin Runway 28 - 111.35
Cork Runway 35 - 109.15
Shannon Runway 24 - 110.95
Kerry Runway 26 - 108.70

Links to updated AFCADs for Irish airports can be found HERE, as well as on the event website. Also if you're flying into/out of Dublin, please make sure that you put in your remarks what scenery you're using so the controller knows, as taxi instructions will vary depending on the scenery.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
Mar sin, tá siúl againn gur feicfimid thú ar 14ú márta agus, as gach duine ag VATeir - Lá Fhéile Pádraig! Smiley

So, we hope to see you all on March 14th, and from all the team at VATeir - Happy St. Patrick's Day/Beannachtaí Lá Fhéile Phádraig daoibh go léir! Smiley

Trevor, I'm on a controller, not a Staff Member, but from what I've heard a VA is holding a fly-in on Paddy's Day, but as far as i know, we havn't been asked to control. Even if they did ask us, we all have lives outside VATSIM, which come first, and I'd imagine most people will be at a parade or family get together or something. In my own case, I'll be at the parade in galway, so I won't be near a pc...

Ever wonder the reason why it's held on the nearest Sunday to Paddy's Day?

In most cases neither pilots nor controllers will be around on Paddy's Day. They will be otherwise engaged. Wink

Hi there,

I'm a newbie, both to flying and to Vatsim / FSInn.

I finally seem to have FSInn working and a mic bought etc. I was hoping to do some circuits at EIWT tomorrow afternoon, probably during the Mega Event.

I was just wondering, is it okay to fly my PA-28, doing circuits at Weston, while all this other traffic is going on over Ireland. Will the Controllers be busy enough without having to listen to me talking about being downwind and on final for touch and go?

And if it is ok for me to do some circuits, which controller should I contact? Dublin? Shannon?

Thanks in advance...

Well, during the mega event Weston might not be the best of places to fly from

There will probably be some regional towers online, they will not be that busy and the controller will be able to give you more time and help where nessecary.

Yeah Jason like Colm says you'd be better off doing circuits at one of the regionals online at the time, or even in Shannon. Dublin will be extremely busy, so its not the best place to start.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll choose a regional one instead and do some flying there. Thanks!

Everyone, thank you so much for flying in, and in particular I want to give a huge thanks to American virtual Airlines and Delta VA, both organised a huge convoy of flights from the states to Ireland, but to everyone who flew in - go raibh míle míle maith agaibh! Grin It was a great event, and I think we're looking at about 320 movements over the course of the 6 hours.

Also just want to remind anyone who flew in the event, you can enter the prize draw until Tuesday 16th March by e-mailing events[at]vateir.com with your name, VATSIM ID, and callsign flown. The 10 winners will be announced on Wednesday 17th March.
