Getting Connected Getting connected to VATSIM has never been easier with the introduction of Squawkbox 3 (SB3) and FSInn. This tutorial will show you how little effort is required to connect to VATSIM using SB3. NOTE: We highly recommend checking out the VATSIM Pilot Resource Center for a wealth of information for new pilots. The first step is to download Squawkbox 3. You can get the latest version off the Squawkbox website. Once you have downloaded the program, simply run the installer until you have installed the program. Then you can launch Flight Simulator and follow the following steps. Select a flight as you usally would in Flight Simulator. Make sure you select a gate as a starting position however! Once you have selected your aircraft and airport, just click FLY NOW as you usually would in FS. Once FS has loaded, go to MODULES and Click on START SQUAWKBOX Squawkbox will then load for you. Once it has loaded, you will have a panel like above. To connect to the network, click START and then CONNECT. The next window brought up is the connecting window. Select your Server at the top, then insert your VATSIM ID and Password in the USER ID and PASSWORD fields. You then must set up an aircraft (and you must do this for every aircraft you fly so other people online can see the aircraft youre in) Simply click AIRCRAFT LIST in the connecting window. A new window will appear. Everything should be blank, so select ADD. You will get a window like this Type in the tile of the aircraft at the top, and using the drop down menu, scroll to the aircraft you will be flying Once you have selected the aircraft, you will be able to select the airline or livery for the aircraft. Scroll down the menu until you find the correct airline. Once you have filled in all the information, press OK You now have the selection of aircraft in your list. Select the aircraft you wish to fly and press OK You will be taken back to the connecting screen. Once you have filled in your callsign, make sure everything has been filled in, and press CONNECT. Voila, you should be connected to the network! Once connected if you press START on Squawkbox, you will be able to File a Flightplan and access other features. Be sure to go to Options after connecting for the first time to set up things. If you want to minimise the large squawkbox window, simply double-click the top blue area (in this picture anyway) and it will minimise. To maximise it, just do the same thing.
